Frequently Asked Questions

Trees are one of the most valuable features on any property—providing shade, beauty, privacy, and curb appeal that takes decades to develop. They're also one of the most serious hazards when something goes wrong. A dead limb over a roofline, a storm-damaged trunk leaning toward a fence, or a tree slowly undermining a foundation can go from manageable concern to significant damage in the time it takes a line of thunderstorms to pass through Southwest Missouri.

Man of Stihl LLC is Monett's local tree service company—licensed, fully insured, and built on over 15 years of hands-on experience with the trees, soils, and weather conditions of Southwest Missouri. Whether you need a hazardous tree removed before it becomes an emergency, overgrown limbs trimmed back from your home, a stump ground down flush with your yard, or a crew on-site after a storm has left a mess of downed wood and debris, Man of Stihl handles it all. We offer free estimates on every job and emergency service around the clock—because tree problems don't always happen at convenient times.

Tree Services FAQs

  • How do I know if a tree on my property needs to be removed?

Common warning signs include dead or dying branches in the canopy, a visible lean that wasn't there before, cracks or splits in the trunk, mushrooms or fungal growth at the base, or a tree that was struck by lightning or badly damaged in a storm. If you're unsure, call for a free assessment. We'll tell you honestly if the tree can be managed without removal.

  • Is tree removal dangerous?

Yes. Tree removal is one of the most physically demanding and technically complex jobs in tree care, and trees can fall in unpredictable ways. That's why it should be handled by a licensed, insured crew with the right training and equipment.

  • Will you haul away the wood and debris after removal?

Yes. We cut large sections into manageable lengths, can cut wood for firewood or haul it away completely, and clear all brush, debris, and chips. The job isn't finished until your property is clean.

  • Is stump grinding included in tree removal, or is it separate?

Stump grinding is available as an option and can be bundled with your removal. Ask about bundled pricing when you schedule.

  • How often should my trees be trimmed?

Mature shade trees benefit from professional trimming every two to three years. Younger trees may need more frequent attention, and trees near rooflines, utility lines, or outbuildings may need annual attention to stay safe.

  • Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Man of Stihl LLC is licensed (license number 1762) and fully insured, which protects your property and our crew.

  • What's the difference between topping a tree and proper pruning?

Topping cuts branches back to a set length, which weakens the tree's structure and health over time. Proper pruning makes each cut in the right location so the tree can heal naturally and keep its structure intact.

  • How deep does stump grinding go?

For standard restoration, we grind stumps at least six inches below grade. If you plan to build, plant, or pave over the area, tell us, and we'll grind to the depth your plans require.

  • Will the roots be removed during stump grinding?

Stump grinding reduces the stump and the upper part of the root ball to wood chips below grade, which lets the area be filled and reseeded or replanted. Larger roots deeper than that may remain in the ground.

  • Can I plant a new tree in the same spot after stump grinding?

Yes. Tell us your planting plans before the job, and we'll grind the stump to the right depth for the new tree.

  • Is 24/7 emergency service really available?

es. Call 417-489-3013 any time of day or night for storm damage, fallen trees, blocked access routes, or hanging limbs over occupied areas. Non-emergency cleanups are scheduled for the next available date.

  • What should I do first if a tree falls on my home during a storm?

Get everyone out of the home and call 911 if anyone is hurt. If the tree or a limb is touching power lines, stay clear and call your utility company first. Once the area is safe, call 417-489-3013 for emergency storm cleanup.

  • Will my homeowner's insurance cover tree removal and storm cleanup?

Coverage depends on your policy and the cause of the damage, so contact your insurance company before work begins. Call us for a free estimate to help you understand the scope of the work.

  • Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Missouri?

Permit requirements vary by city and county. Check with your local government office before work begins. We'll discuss your situation during your free estimate.

  • How much does tree removal cost in Southwest Missouri?

Pricing depends on the actual scope of the work. Every estimate is free, and no work begins until you've approved the plan and the price.

  • What areas do you serve?

We serve Monett, Pierce City, Mount Vernon, Verona, Aurora, Sarcoxie, Wentworth, Diamond, Billings, Republic, Marionville, Cassville, Pulaski, and the surrounding Southwest Missouri area. If you're unsure whether your property is in our service area, call us to check.
